6 months old!!

On Thursday Ben turned 6 months old. He's growing up fast, and we are cherishing this special time in our lives. Both boys are doing great; we really couldn't ask for anything more.

Benjamin has a few things in common with his older brother: 1- he's very happy, and 2- he is adorable! Ben also is showing some differences, such as being more active, a lighter sleeper, and an early teether. He got the first two teeth at 3 months old, and just got a third a few weeks ago; there are three more coming soon. He's louder, both with talking and crying. And he's also more ticklish. Lately he's getting good at creeping across the floor, and we are curious to see when he'll start crawling. He's just started eating solid foods, and loves it. So far, he's only had rice cereal, and has shown a clear preference for having it mixed with breastmilk over formula. We'll be trying oatmeal next week.

Billy is deep in the question asking phase that I've heard so much about. He frequently asks me, "Why'd you say 'huh'?" (Apparently I say "huh" a lot!) He has a great vocabulary and surprises us with the words he can use in context, (ex. organic life forms, disappointed, distracted, conversation.) He also has a great memory, as is typical for children. He's filling his mind with super-heroes and cartoon characters, and hopefully some other more important things... he can count to 11! I've been thinking he needs more structured activities, but it's been harder to get out and do things lately...

Stu's doing great at his "new" job. He's been with WG Clark for a year now, and is happy there. I'm happy with my gig here at home! My struggle is to focus on goals that are longer-term than getting the chores done and dinner on the table. I am going to try to start playing piano again, and maybe train for another triathlon in the fall.

Here's an idea for some structured learning for Billy - find out what the Kindergarten entrance/exit expectations are in your local school district. If you keep these in mind as you plan activities, you'll naturally apply some structure. I am constantly amazed at what Kyle can do at 4-1/2. I'm sure Kindergarten expectations are more advanced now than they were when we were kids...Kyle tried writing "Keith" all by himself the other day. He spelled it Keyeth, but phonetically it makes sense. I don't remember even being able to write my OWN name before Kindergarten....
